Mexico 2011 - Celebration time

Having declared 2011 The Year of Tourism, Mexico’s President
Felipe Calderón has introduced an ambitious “100-point plan” which aims to place the already popular holiday hotspot within the top five tourism destinations of the world by 2018. It is currently in the tenth position.

Focusing on key areas of communications, financing, infrastructure, regulation, cultural heritage, promotion, training,
certification, production and sustainability, the National
Agreement for Tourism has been designed to attract visitors
and investment, as well as increase tourism to the country. If
successful, Calderón has suggested the initiative could create
as many as 4 million direct jobs and 12 million indirect jobs.
